On a daily basis the first 2 - 3 cases of the day are run on the stainer before anything else is run. The tech of the day reviews those slides before anymore are run to evaluate the quality of the stain. The tech then documents that the stain was ok on a worksheet. At the time the slides are being put into slide trays the tech that is doing that macroscopically reviews slides for obvious wrinkles, improper placement on the slide or any other visually noncompliant issue. If there is something that is not up to standard there is still time to recut the slide instead of waiting for the pathologist to have to reject the slide. This is also documented on a worksheet if there is a problem.

I am wondering how other labs are documenting techs checking their own slide quality? Are you making them check a certain percentage? Thank you.
