Yes, it is good to use the metabisulfite rinses to remove any excess schiff reagent after the schiff step. But after the metabisulfite rinses, you still need to go into TAP water for several minutes to have the full color of the PAS reaction develop. It will get much brighter after the final tap water rinse.
