[Histonet] Fresh specimens after hours

We are not staffed 24/7. The OR here has a supply of small pre-filled formalin containers that they actually take into the OR room but not in the sterile area. They put the specimens directly in them and then, at the end of the procedure, deliver them just outside our Frozen Section room for us to pick up numerous times a day. Larger specimens are brought fresh to a refrigerator outside our Frozen room. We will pick them up and put formalin on them when we are here. At the end of the day, a sign goes on the refrigerator door that Pathology is closed and no fresh specimens can be placed in the frig. We have a supply of empty large containers in our Frozen room that the OR staff grab place in the Frozen Room sink and place the specimen in it. They then pour formalin on the specimen and carry it next door to the specimen refrigerator. Now all we have to do is get the OR staff to record the ischemic time somewhere.
