  I also have one of those old bottles of di-brom-oxy-mercuri-fluorescein (mercurochrome 220). Just prepare a 2% aquaeous solution and it will do (no ethanol involved). Great stuf for skin cuts and bruises!
  You could also add a few drops of concentrated eosin in the last absolute ethanol station in your tissue processor and your small biopsies will be stained. Since the next step will probably be xylene (or a substitute) the biopsies will not be distained and will be visible when embedding.
