Plastic containers received from the manufacturer are deemed "safe" and can be used and stored as such. Safety containers are needed when you receive the flammables in large containers (like ethanol in drums) and you have to pump them out TO a small safety container that is going to be stores / used in the lab.
  You do not, and should not transfer a flammable from the original (usually 1 gal) plastic container to a metal safety container. For sure you are going to spill some amount and  wil worsen the whole situation.
