"Thank you" to all of you who responded to my question of guidelines for submission of tonsils to pathology. There was no consensus. Interestingly, our ENT surgeons at our Children's Hospital have decided to stop sending tonsils to our Department unless there is a "clinical" suspicion of disease. And, from what we can tell from the medical literature, there is no reason to submit "routine" tonsils to Pathology for examination (gross/microscopic), regardless of the patient's age.
